Do you remember where you were when the space shuttle Challenger blew up? For many people, the challenger disaster was a defining moment in their history. Share with us your memories of the space shuttle Challenger disaster.

I was in third grade.

I remembered vividly of what happened on that tragic day in January of 1986. I was at Tilton elementary school. As a class we went to the school library to see it on television but the shuttle flight was cancelled. Thenext day, we were not able to see the flight but the shuttle took off. I didn't here the tragedy until my teacher came in and gave us the tragic news of what happened. We asked questions like did the paraschutes open? Or did anyone survived? Unfortunately, no one did. I remember that day and knowing this is something that I will remember for the rest of my life. For many weeks after, we heard all about the recovery of the dedri but never found out what actually caused the explosion. Not until years later because only an adult could understand what happened. The most tragic thing in my mind is that there is a theory that all of the crew members may have survived the initial explosion but were killed when they plummet into the ocean at 200mph.

Frank

I was in my chem / physics classroom, listening to the launch on the radio, and I watched it out of the window in my room. I had followed very closely, as I had applied for the Teacher in Space program. I am still teaching in the same room, and I often look out the window and remember that colddFlorida morning. I am retiring this year, and one of the last things I'll remove from my classroom wall is a tribute poster to the Challenger crew.

Where I was When the Challenger Exploded

I wasn't alive at the time. Sorry about that. I can't give a great answer.
