Lalande 21185 Information:

The fifth closest star to our own sun is called Lalande 21185. While it is only about 8.3 light years away, it is about three times too faint to be seen with the naked eye. The star was first listed by Joseph-Jérôme Lefrançais de Lalande (1732-1807). De Lalande became director of the Paris Observatory in 1795, produced the most comprehensive catalog for his time of 47,390 star positions (the Histoire Céleste Française) in 1801. Like Wolf 359, Lalande 21185 is a red dwarf. Lalande 21185 probably has planets orbiting it. Lalande 21185 is in the constellation Ursa Major.
