Space Suit Gallery

From , former About.com Guide

Spacesuits must provide astronauts all the comfort and support that the Earth or a spacecraft does - like atmosphere, water, protection from radiation…

..and going to the bathroom!

If you did not wear a space suit, these are the things that would happen to you…

  • You would become unconscious within 15 seconds because there is no oxygen.
  • Because the atmospheric pressure is so thin, your internal blood pressure would cause your blood to boil and then freeze
  • You would face extreme temperatures: 120 degrees Celsius in the sunlight and minus 100 degrees Celsius in the shade!
  • You would be exposed to various types of radiation from the sun.
  • And you could be hit by small particles of dust moving at high speed or, even, space debris.
