In October of 2007, we celebrated 50 years of space exploration with the anniversary of the launch of Sputnik 1. During 2008, NASA will celebrate 50 years of scientific and technological excellence. On January 31, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first US satellite, Explorer 1. Then, on October 1, NASA turns 50 and we celebrate the History of NASA.

NASA has powered us into the 21st century through signature accomplishments that are enduring icons of human achievement. Among those accomplishments are technological innovations and scientific discoveries that have improved and shaped our lives on Earth in a myriad of ways. Please join us as we celebrate the past and look forward to a promising new era of inspiration, innovation, and discovery.
