This image of asteroid 951 Gaspra is a mosaic of 2 images taken by the Galileo spacecraft from a range of 5.300 kilometers (3.300 miles), about 10 minutes before closest approach on October 29, 1991. The sun shines from the right. The resolution is about 54 meters/pixel. That is the highest for the Gaspra encounter. Gaspra is an irregular body with dimensions of 19 x 12 x 11 km (12 x 7.5 x 7 miles). Sunlit part of this view is about 18 kilometers (11 miles) from top to bottom from left to right. The North Pole is in the upper left, broken in every sense Gaspra 7 hours.
