Definition: Seven Sages: The seven sages: a group of half-legendary wise people from the Archaic age, often regarded as the founders of Greek philosophy. The four primary names believed to be members of the Seven Sages are Thales, Pittacus, Bias, and Solon. Names often included as possible candidates for the other three include: Cleobulus, Myson, Anacharsis, Pythagoras, Periander, Periander, Aristodemus, Pamphylus, Epimenides, Leophantes, Acusilaos, and Scabras.
