Hertz, Heinrich (1857 - 1894)

Definition: Hertz, Heinrich (1857 - 1894): A German physics professor who did the first experiments with generating and receiving electromagnetic waves, in particular radio waves. In his honor, the units associated with measuring the cycles per second of the waves (or the number of times the tip-tops of the waves pass a fixed point in space in 1 second of time) is called the hertz.
