Pulsars
Quite simply, pulsars are rotating neutron stars. This rotation is what makes them pulse. Pulsars were first discovered in July 1967 by graduate student Jocelyn Bell Burnell and her professor Antony Hewish. The following year both Thomas Gold and Franco Pacini separately suggested that these pulsars (PULsating stARS) were actually rotating neutron stars.
What is Dark Matter
There is much that we do not know about the Universe, but one of the greatest mysteries surrounds a substance known as dark matter. By its very nature it is invisible to the naked eye, but is apparently all around us; everywhere we look in the night sky. But without it physicists would have a difficult time explaining the composition, motion and...
What Are Gamma-ray Bursts?
Gamma-ray Bursts (GRBs) were accidentally discovered in the late 1960s while attempting to spy on the Soviet Union's nuclear program. Since then, they have been found to be the most powerful and dynamic sources of radiation in the Universe.
