The Mahabhaskariya was written in about 600 AD and is an eight chapter work on Indian mathematical astronomy. It includes topics such as the longitudes of the planets, conjunctions of the planets with each other and with bright stars, eclipses of the sun and the moon, risings and settings, and the lunar crescent.
Govindasvami was about 30 when he wrote the Bhasya. It was a commentary on the Mahabhaskariya. Mathemeticians find Govindasvami's commentary interesting for the many examples of using a place-value Sanskrit system of numeralsas well as his construction of a sine table.
Little else is know about this scholar, except that he died about 860 in India.
