Unusually Small Antarctic Ozone Hole This Year Attributed To Exceptionally Strong Stratospheric Weather Systems
Scientists from NASA and the Commerce Department's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
have confirmed the ozone hole over the Antarctic this September is not only much smaller than it was in 2000 and 2001, but
has split into two separate "holes."
Studies Aim To Reduce Airliner Fuel Tank Flammability
NASA is developing technology to help prevent airliner fuel tank fires or explosions. Four contracts, awarded by NASA's Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, may reduce airliner fuel tank fire and explosion hazards.
NASA Funds Workforce Development Projects
NASA has selected 45 consortia in the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program (Space Grant) to receive funding for aerospace workforce development. A total of $3.56 million is being awarded in response to proposals submitted by the state organizations to NASA's Education Division in the Office of Human Resources and Education at Headquarters in Washington.
Pasadena Honors Age-Old Relationship with Universe
Pasadena is celebrating its roots in astronomy, and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory is joining in the festivities, which include an exhibit at the Pasadena Museum of History through December 1, and a Celestial Ball on Saturday, Sept. 28.
