Exhibits and Activities:

The Apollo Command Module used on Skylab 3 is our most popular exhibit. It's a tribute to Glenn's many contributions Apollo program. Our Apollo exhibits also feature the space suit worn by Jim Lovell on Apollo 8 and a real Moon rock. You can also see one of the two balls used by the STS-73 crew for the first pitch for Game 5 of the 1995 World Series aboard Space Shuttle Columbia. Our Microgravity Laboratory mockup features flight hardware from our Microgravity Science Division and a drop tower where you can conduct your own experiment! Our Launch Control Center allows you to conduct a countdown sequence towards a simulated launch of a rocket. Our Solar System gallery provides an overview of planetary exploration. Our newest exhibit is the Combustion Module-2 Crew Trainer that was dedicated in memory of the Space Shuttle Columbia crew. The exhibit allows you to learn more about the science that was part of Columbia's STS-107 Mission. The actual Combustion Module Crew Trainer that was used to train astronauts for STS-107 has been enhanced to incorporate interactive features into the exhibit. The crew trained on the Combustion Module in Cleveland because it was designed and built at Glenn. You can perform some of the steps that the astronauts performed when working with the Combustion Module. After following the steps, actual footage is played from one of the experiments conducted in space. A STS-107 post-flight multimedia presentation can also be accessed in the Visitor Center's "Mission Support Center" console.

The NASA Glenn Amateur Radio Club operates a satellite station at the Visitors Center that is in daily operation by Visitor's Center club members as N8VC (formerly AK8Y). Several prominent awards received by NASA Glenn are showcased including an Emmy and a Collier Trophy. Outside, visitors can see a full-scale replica of the Centaur rocket.

The Visitor Center also features a large video screen used for regularly scheduled videos about NASA programs and live broadcasts of space shuttle launches, in-flight activities and landings. Special weekend programming is provided with themes focusing on various aspects of NASA's missions. Other special events are scheduled to provide our visitors access to interesting lectures and unique programs.
