NASA Images Suggest Water Still Flows in Brief Spurts on Mars
12/6/06 NASA has announced some very exciting findings for those who are hoping to discover some type of life on Mars, whether present or in the past. Newer photographs taken by the Mars Global Surveyor, when compared to earlier images have revealed bright new deposits seen in two gullies on Mars that suggest water carried sediment through them sometime during the past seven years. While water ice and vapor have been known to exist on Mars, liquid water is considered necessary for life.

The ESA's View of Cydonia - the face on Mars
A perspective view showing the so-called 'Face on Mars' located in the Cydonia region. The image shows a remnant massif thought to have formed via landslides and an early form of debris apron formation. The massif is characterized by a western wall that has moved downslope as a coherent mass. The massif became famous as the 'Face on Mars' in a photo taken on 25 July 1976 by the American Viking 1 Orbiter.

Mars Closest To Earth in 50,000 Years
August of 2003 was a special time for scientists and amateur astronomers. Mars moved closer than it's been in 50,000 years. On August 27, 2003, the "red planet" was less than 55.76 million kilometers away from the Earth. That sounds like a huge distance, but in stellar terms, that's a stone's throw. Just six months before, Mars was about five times that distance.
