Dr. Mae C. Jemison
Dr. Mae Jemison was the first African-American female astronaut in Space. Dr. Mae Jemison is "Not Limited By The Imagination of Others." Dr. Mae Jemison is well-versed in African and African-American Studies, speaks fluent Russian, Japanese, and Swahili, as well as English and is trained in dance and choreography. On February 20, 1962, atop an Atlas rocket, he rode into space and piloted the Friendship 7 spacecraft around the globe three times, becoming the first American to orbit the earth. In 1998, he became the oldest person to launch into space.
