I love a good coincidence, and this involves several.
I was spending my lunch break catching up on one of my favorite TV shows by watching an episode of "NUMB3RS" online when I received an email from our friends at Wolfram Research to tell me about an "interesting blog post." A different post on the Wolfram blog says, "Wolfram Research has worked with the CBS/Paramount show 'NUMB3RS' since its first season." But the "interesting" post was a bit newer.
Wolfram physicist, Jeff Bryant, shared a discovery he made while decluttering his home hard drive. Running across an old FITS data file on his hard drive, he decided to utilize Wolfram's flagship product, Mathematica to clear up and identify the object in the image. What he found was fascinating.
The image above was made by the Hubble Space Telescope of the same object. Read Jeff's post to see his image and for more info.
