Houston, We Have A Wedding

Monday August 11, 2003
CNN.com has details on the first wedding in space. Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko, aboard the International Space Station (ISS), married Ekaterina Dmitriev, on Earth yesterday in a video-teleconference ceremony. The bride stood next to a cardboard cutout of the groom as they gazed at each other over the video connection and exchanged vows. No word yet on the honeymoon destination, after Malenchenko returns from orbit in October.

A Yahoo article from the Reuters News Service says that Yuri's parents did not learn of the space wedding until the last minute, from a friend. They are not happy with the space wedding and say the couple should have waited until he returned from space.
