How About Superglue? - Opportunity Launch Delayed

Monday July 7, 2003
The launch of the second Rover, NASA Mars Rover Opportunity, has been delayed, again, until today. It seems that attempts to glue a special insulation to the Delta II rocket which will carry the NASA Mars Rover Opportunity has been unsuccessful. NASA opted to delay to give the glue more time to set. This latest delay, however, was due to battery problems with the rocket's self-destruct system. (We must be able to destroy the NASA Mars Rover Opportunity.)

Mars moves out of range on July 15, and won't be a possible target for another two years.

First opportunity: 10:35:23 p.m.
Second opportunity: 11:18:15 p.m. EDT

As always, the launch can be viewed online on NASA TV.
